Emmanuel Coach Musa Nkondo is probably the highest-paid coach in the ABC Motsepe League.

Football is a profession for many players and coaches, and their livelihoods depend entirely on the salaries they receive from their clubs at the end of each month.

Nowadays, even players and coaches from lower leagues such as the HollywoodBets and ABC Motsepe leagues do get paid. However, the question is, how much do these players and coaches earn?

ABC Motsepe league stream A champions Mpheni Defenders owner, Sydwell Phuravhathu, has divulged that none of his players earn a salary of more than R5000, including senior players.

Phuravhathu said younger players in his team earn a salary ranging from R1500 to R3500. However, a former player has disputed these claims and revealed that there were players who were paid more during his time at the club.

Phuravhathu’s counterpart at Tzaneen United, Dennus Mafologela, said he doesn’t necessarily pay his players salaries but provides financial assistance. “I wouldn’t call it a salary; it’s a stipend because ABC Motsepe league is not a professional league like PSL where they have contracts,” he said.

Mafologela refused to divulge exactly how much he is paying his players but emphasized that he gives them financial support based on their performance. His statement contradicts much-spread rumours that he pays players good salaries, which explains their high standard performance in the league this season. Moreover, some of “Lebapola” players are experienced professionals.

Another team that does not pay salaries to their players is Vondwe X1 Bullets. The Venda-based club also doesn’t pay fixed salaries to their players but does offer financial assistance. Most of their players are locally based and inexperienced.

According to a source close to the relegation-threatened Giyani Happy Boys team, players at the club used to earn salaries ranging from R10,000 to R15,000 with not less than R1000 as a bonus for a win.

However, the team unfortunately lost most of their best players this season due to financial difficulties. Their high level of salary payments was almost matched by arch-rivals Emmanuel FC, who also hail from Giyani.

Emmanuel is said to be paying their experienced players exorbitant salaries. They are alleged to be having in their team players who earn way above R6000 per month, making them one of the highest-paying teams in the league.

Another high-paying team is Winnerspark. The Bellevue-based side is said to be taking good care of their players financially. This was confirmed by their boss Robert Mokgola, who divulged that his players received salaries ranging from R3000 to R5000 with an additional R500 bonus for a win this season.

Meanwhile, coaches’ salaries were also revealed. Top Coaches, such as Emmanuel head Coach Musa Nkondo, revealed that he takes home no less than R20,000 per month. This was probably the reason he left Vondwe for his former employer this season.

Other coaches in other clubs earn salaries ranging from R3500 to R16,000 per month. A former Winnerspark coach divulged that he was paid R12,000 by the club during his tenure. We were also informed that Winnerspark was able to pay one of their coaches a salary of not less than R16,000 a month in the past.

Another side that is said to be taking good care of their coach is Venda-based side Vondwe X1 Bullets.

Their head coach Lufuno “Zambrotta” Ndou revealed that he was receiving R3500 when he started coaching at the club but his salary was increased to R5000 when the team started winning games. He is currently earning not less than R8000 a month. “Zambrotta” took over the reigns at the club after the departure of coach Nkondo and was able to lead the club to a 6th spot finish.

Some soccer lovers alleged that Venda-based Munaca is by far the team with the highest-paid coaches in the league. The allegations were based on the fact that Munaca was able to sign top-class coaches such as former U20 National team coach Solly Luvengo and charismatic coach Sello Chokwe. However, the team has been failing to make an impact in the league in the past. This season they were able to achieve a third-place finish.
