Freedom of Entry into Maruleng Parade
On Saturday, October 26, 2024, Maruleng Municipality hosted a historic Freedom of Entry Parade, granting Air Force Base Hoedspruit the prestigious right of entry into the municipality.
Held at Ga-Sekororo Village’s Calais Multi-Purpose Sports Centre, the event marked a powerful moment in honouring and strengthening ties between the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the Maruleng community.
The ceremony began at 10:00 a.m., featuring dignitaries including Major General Sipiwo Dlomo, General Officer Commanding of the SA Air Force, Brigadier General Victor Tshunungwa, Officer Commanding of Air Force Base Hoedspruit, and Maruleng Mayor Councillor. Tsheko Musolwa.
Mayor Musolwa, recognised for his visionary leadership, celebrated the event as both an honour to the municipality and a tribute to the commitment of Air Force Base Hoedspruit personnel.
In a display of discipline and unity, SANDF forces marched through Ga-Sekororo, symbolising resilience and patriotism. Mayor Musolwa praised the Air Force’s dedication, noting, “This event reflects the strength of unity and mutual respect in Maruleng.”
With the ANC Norman Mashabane regional conference ahead, many view the Mayor’s strengthened ties with SANDF as an affirmation of his influential leadership in the region.
Culminating the ceremony, Mayor Musolwa and Major General Dlomo exchanged gifts—Mayor Musolwa presenting a framed photograph of a lion, symbolising strength and courage, while Major General Dlomo gifted the Mayor with a framed portrait of himself, marking a moment of mutual respect. The celebrations were preceded by Career Exhibitions aimed at inspiring youth to explore aviation and military careers, solidifying Air Force Base Hoedspruit’s commitment to community mentorship and empowerment.
This Freedom of Entry Parade in Maruleng not only upheld a revered military tradition but also fostered a deeper bond between the armed forces and the community, promising a unified and bright future.
