Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the appointment of Mandla Mashimbyi as the new head coach of the Proteas women’s cricket team. Mashimbyi, a former coach of the Titans, brings a wealth of experience and a stellar track record to his new role.
During his tenure with the Titans, Mashimbyi led the team to numerous domestic titles. He has also worked with the Proteas men’s team and the SA20’s Paarl Royals as a bowling coach.
CSA’s Director of Cricket, Enoch Nkwe, expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating: “CSA is extremely proud to welcome someone of Mandla’s stature and expertise. We are confident that he will excel in this role, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective.”
Mashimbyi, who hails from Phalaborwa, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying: “I am deeply honoured to accept the appointment as the Proteas Women’s Coach. I am aware of the significant responsibilities and expectations associated with this esteemed position.”
Mashimbyi replaces Hilton Moreeng, who served as the Proteas head coach for 11 years. During his tenure, Moreeng guided the team to two ODI World Cup semi-finals, two T20 World Cup semi-finals, and led them to their first World Cup final appearance.
