Ramotshinyadi Village team won the seventh edition of Makoti Annual Soccer Tournament 2022 on new year’s day.

The host village emerged champions of the 48 village-team tournament after defeating Shamfana 4-5 on penalties following a one-all stalemate in regulation time.

There was no goal in the first half and the visitors took the lead in the 82nd minutes. Their joy was short lived as the home side equalised four minutes later and took the game to the penalty shoot-out.

Ramotshinyadi started their campaign in the tourney on a low note, winning 5-4 against Risaba following a scoreless draw. In the second game Ramotshinyadi fought hard for a one-nill win against Maweni before proceeding to the quarterfinals were the home boys registered a 2-0 win over Daniel Rababalela Village.

In the semi-final, Ramotshinyadi overcame hapless neighbours, Mokgwathi 5-4 on penalties following 0-0 final score-line in 90 minutes. Ramotshinyadi won the tourney for the second time after winning in 2016.

For winning the tournament the home-side received R 130 000 cash prize money, a trophy and gold medals while the runners-up received R50 000 plus silver medals.

Myakayaka took home R30 000 plus silver medals for achieving the third position while the fourth placed, Mokgwathi became R20 000 richer plus bronze medals.

The village teams which obtained position five to eight: Maphata, Lekgwareng, NkowaNkowa and Daniel Rababalela each received R5 000 consolation prize money.

Ramotshinyadi captain, Sjovi Mohale was voted player of the tournament and also received the youngest player award. He pocketed R4000 and R2000 respectively plus miniature trophies.

Ramotshinyadi goalkeeper, Thabo Moila who conceded only one goal except the penalty-shootout won the goalkeeper of the tournament trophy plus R4000 in cash.

Co-coaches of the winning Ramotshinyadi team, Rammie Monaiwa and Lee Makeleni shared the coach of the tournament award. They were assisted by Riska Mokwaole.
