Former TTM assistant coach Lefuno “Zambrotta” Ndou has returned to familiar territory after being appointed head coach of his former club, Vondwe X1 Bullets, in a move that has added fresh intrigue to the ABC Motsepe League Stream A title race.

Ndou recently left TTM and crossed over to Vondwe, with the two clubs competing in the same stream this season — a switch that has already drawn attention across Limpopo football circles.

His reign at the Bullets started on a sour note after Vondwe went down 1-0 to Lebash Football Academy in his first match in charge.

But the coach responded in the best possible way, guiding the Bullets to a convincing 3-1 victory away against the Mighty Tzaneen United — a result that not only secured his first win but also served as a statement of intent against one of the stream’s top contenders.

Ndou’s confidence is not surprising, especially after his successful spell at Selwane White Vultures last season, where he departed without suffering a single defeat.

Despite the early stumble at Vondwe, the optimistic “Zambrotta” insists the Bullets remain firmly in the hunt for league honours.

Vondwe currently sit fifth on the Stream A log with 12 points from seven matches. They are nine points adrift of log leaders Mpheni Defenders, who have opened a healthy gap at the top.

However, the Bullets are far from out of the race, trailing second-placed Phalaborwa United by just one point. Phalaborwa are level on points with third-placed Tzaneen United, while Vondwe are also tied on points with fourth-placed Mukondeni Young Chiefs.

Ndou believes the Bullets’ title credentials will be defined by their ability to take points off the top four, with a particular focus on table-toppers Mpheni.

“The gap can be reduced if we beat the teams above us, especially Mpheni Defenders,” said Ndou.

Vondwe face a crucial run of fixtures in the coming weeks. They host The Dolphins this Saturday before travelling to Mukondeni Young Chiefs next weekend. A week later, they will face their biggest test yet when they take on Mpheni Defenders away in what could prove a decisive encounter in the championship chase.

With momentum beginning to build, Ndou and his side will be aiming to turn their recent breakthrough into a consistent run — and to prove that the Bullets are not just chasing the leaders, but coming for them.
