National First Division (NFD) strugglers Black Leopards FC have appointed Sundra Govinder and Duncan Lechesa as co-head coaches in a bold move aimed at rescuing the club from the relegation zone.

The duo replaces Mabhuti Khenyeza, who was unable to lift the team out of the relegation quagmire despite sustained efforts.

After reviewing the team’s performances, Leopards management concluded that Govinder and Lechesa are the most suitable candidates to lead the turnaround and are capable of steering the team to safety.

The new coaching partnership faces an immediate challenge when Leopards host fifth-placed Hungry Lions at Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday, 01 March.

With the season reaching a decisive stage, three points are desperately needed as Leopards look to close the five-point gap between themselves and Midlands Wanderers FC, who are second from bottom on the NFD standings.

A positive result would provide much-needed momentum and belief as the club intensifies its fight for survival.

Leopards have endured a difficult campaign, struggling for consistency and results. Defensive lapses, missed opportunities, and a lack of cutting edge in attack have contributed to their current position on the log.

However, the appointment of Govinder and Lechesa signals a renewed determination by the club to stabilise performances, restore confidence, and reignite competitive spirit within the squad.

Sunday’s encounter against Hungry Lions is expected to attract strong local support, as fans rally behind the team in a crucial battle for survival.

All Eyes on the New Coaches, as the pressure mounts, attention now turns to Govinder and Lechesa to deliver instant impact and guide one of Limpopo’s most iconic football institutions away from relegation danger.

With every point now vital, Leopards know that time is no longer a luxury — survival is the mission.
