Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba.

The Limpopo Executive Council, known as EXCO, met on Wednesday, to discuss the road ahead for the province.

The meeting focused on helping communities recover from disasters, creating thousands of new jobs, and preparing for historic celebrations. The decisions made during this session aim to strengthen the government and improve the lives of all residents.

Helping Communities Recover from Floods

The province has been working hard to repair the damage caused by heavy rains. Between December 2025 and January 2026, several areas were hit by floods. In response, sixteen municipalities have received money from the Municipal Disaster Response Grant.

EXCO reviewed a progress report on how this money is being used. The council was firm in its decision that all repair projects must be finished by August 2026. To make sure the work stays on track, officials will meet every month to check on the progress. The council insisted that accounting officers must monitor the projects closely to ensure the work is done properly and the money is spent wisely.

A Major Boost for Employment

In a move that will bring hope to many job seekers, EXCO approved a massive recruitment plan. The province plans to fill more than 7,085 positions within provincial departments and public entities. These are not just future plans; the council wants these jobs filled within the current financial year.

By hiring over 7,000 new employees, the government hopes to build a stronger state. The goal is to have enough staff to provide better services to every village and town. This recruitment drive follows all legal rules to ensure that the best people are hired to serve the public.

Honoring 50 Years of Youth History

This year is a very special one for South African history. It marks the 50th anniversary of Youth Month, remembering the events of 1976. To celebrate this milestone, the council has chosen the venues for the main events. The launch of Youth Month will take place in Bela-Bela in the Waterberg District. The main Youth Day commemoration on June 16 will be held at Relela Village in the Mopani District. These events will honor the courage of the young people who fought for democracy.

Financial Success and Service Delivery

The council also looked at how the province is spending its budget. By the end of March 2026, Limpopo had spent 98 percent of its adjusted budget. While this shows good financial management, the council warned that spending money is only the first step. They have ordered all departments to speed up their projects so that this spending leads to real, visible changes in communities.

Respecting Traditional Leadership

Finally, EXCO took steps to support traditional leaders. The council officially recognized Mothiba Pogoti Patrick and Mothapo Thato Paledi as senior traditional leaders for their communities.

This recognition follows the national laws for traditional leadership. Additionally, the council welcomed the recent handover of new vehicles to the Balobedu Queenship and the Bapedi Kingship. These tools of trade will help the royal houses move around and serve their people more effectively.
