The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo has strongly condemned growing corruption, political intimidation, and the capture of state institutions in the province.
In a media statement released on July 27, 2026, the party raised alarm over allegations of corruption and threats linked to a huge R99.3 million contract awarded at the Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (MMSEZ).
The SACP stated that these disturbing developments point to a dangerous, recurring pattern across the province. The party warned that political figures are abusing their power to influence government tender processes, bully honest public servants, and destroy public institutions meant to help ordinary citizens.
At the centre of the recent scandal is MMSEZ board member and ANC veteran David Nkoana. Nkoana reportedly faced serious intimidation after speaking out and raising red flags against the questionable awarding of the R99.3 million tender.
The SACP insisted that these claims must be investigated thoroughly without fear or favour. The party stated clearly that public representatives who stand up to protect state funds should be supported and protected, rather than targeted or threatened.
According to the communist party, corruption is far more than just a crime. It represents a direct attack on working-class families and poor communities. The SACP noted that every rand stolen through corrupt state contracts is money taken directly away from decent housing, quality healthcare, clean water supply, electricity infrastructure, education, and lasting job creation. Poor communities end up paying the heaviest price for tender fraud.
The party firmly rejected the culture of patronage, tender manipulation, political factionalism, and political gangsterism that continues to weaken state institutions. The SACP reminded public officials that holding public office is a sacred trust. Public positions must never be turned into personal bank accounts or tools to bully those who refuse to take part in corruption.
To fix these serious problems, the SACP issued several clear demands:
*The Hawks and all relevant police agencies must conduct independent, fast, and transparent investigations into all corruption allegations.
*Decisive legal action must be taken against anyone who abuses public office, no matter their political rank or party position.
*Government must provide urgent protection for whistleblowers, public officials, and board members who expose wrongdoing and defend public money.
*Governance, accountability, and ethical leadership must be strengthened across all government departments and state-owned companies.
The SACP pledged to stand firmly alongside workers, poor communities, and honest public servants fighting against systemic corruption. The party stated that its goal is to defend public resources and build a capable state that serves the working class instead of politically connected elites.
Closing its statement, the party declared that the people of Limpopo deserve clean, accountable governance and institutions that are completely free from intimidation. The SACP vowed to keep exposing corruption wherever it exists, emphasizing that fighting state capture is an essential part of the broader struggle for social justice.
