Nkowankowa Continental have set their sights on promotion to the National First Division (NFD), with General Manager Thomas Bayana calling on the township to rally behind the club as they chase their ambitious target this season.
The promotion push comes after Continental survived a relegation battle last season following a difficult start to the campaign.
Coach Timmy Mashele teamed up with Peace Khosa towards the end of last season to help turn the club’s fortunes around and secure their ABC Motsepe League status.
Khosa has since left Continental to join Mpheni Defenders, leaving Mashele to lead the club’s promotion charge this season.
Mashele now faces a completely different challenge — taking Continental to the NFD.
The coach has promotion experience, having previously guided Phalaborwa United from the Hollywoodbets League to the ABC Motsepe League.
According to Bayana, the mandate from the Continental directors this season is clear: promotion.
“We are busy assembling a formidable side capable of promotion,” said Bayana.
Continental’s Nedbank Cup campaign ended early following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Selwane White Vultures, but the club’s focus remains firmly on the league and their promotion ambitions.
Bayana is now calling on Continental supporters to play their part, urging the people of Nkowankowa to come out in large numbers and get behind the team.
The last NFD team to camp in Nkowankowa was City Pillars FC.
Continental now hope to take the next step and bring NFD football back to the township — this time with the club itself fighting for a place in the division.
With Mashele leading the charge and the club working to assemble what Bayana describes as a formidable squad, Continental are preparing for a season in which promotion is firmly on the agenda.
