Mopani District Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Councillor, Pule Shayi says he is satisfied with the progress made on the Tours Water Project as the municipality continues with reticulation direct to households in 25 villages of Greater Tzaneen Municipality.
The Executive Mayor said this during his monitoring visit to the multi-year project at Mogapeng village on Thursday, where work is above 90%. He also had opportunity to engage with community members in an Imbizo.
Thousands of households in Masoma and Mashiloane are already benefiting from the project. He expressed confidence that people in Mogapeng will also have water direct to houses as the project nears completion.
here are four contractors on site busy with with work on phase 2 of the project which is set to benefit more communities, including Makhwibidung, Shilubane, Nyanyukani, Pharare, Rhulani, New Phepheng, Sebela, Bordeaux and Myakayaka. The Tours Water Project is earmarked for 25 villages in the Bulamahlo cluster of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.
“It is already 97% complete and today we were opening water at this family. We are able to attest that indeed there is progress on this project with 1652 households already connected and receiving water. As we conclude the Human Rights, this is the best way to restore their dignity out of the work that our forebears sacrificed to ensure that we have this freedom,” the Executive Mayor Shayi said.
Hilda Sebatana, a resident of Mogapeng village said the project brings relief to the community. “We were struggling with water. There were people in the community who were not getting water, but with this project we are all going to get water. We are so happy that the entire community will now have water.”
Phase 1 of the project valued at R44 million has already benefited 20 small businesses through sub-contracting. The work assigned to SMMEs included the construction and installation of yard connections with stand pipes, installation of fire hydrants and valve chambers.
