Jozy United FC have been hit by a dark cloud as they mourn the passing away of their top official, Mr Matome Frederick Machethe who was also a well known taxi owner.
According to club owner who is also the younger brother to the deceased Nthapeleng Machethe, Matome was rushed to the local Kgapane Hospital on Wednesday due to a severe chest pain but was later transferred to Letaba Hospital the same day where he unfortunately passed away few minutes after he arrived.
“Losing my brother is a big blow not only for the family but also for the club. He was chairman of the club in my absentia and was doing excellently,” said Nthapeleng.
Obviously his passing away affected the players enormously because he was very close to them and that was why they could not continue with practice sessions last week. I tried to plead with SAFA to postpone our league game against Sekgopo Happy Boys to allow the players time to mourn but they refused. Fortunately we won that game 1-0 and now we can prepare to lay my brother to rest with the dignity he deserves this Sunday at Jamela Cemetary” he concluded. Machethe was affectionately known in the soccer fraternity as “Four-five”.
