Popular tavern Madlesa Liquor Restaurant has in first of its kind, released a statement on social media informing loyal customers and the general public — that the their monthly Madlesa Sundays sessions, will be put on hold in respect of ongoing matric exams.

Talking to Mopani Times, owner and local businessman Billy Madlesa wished the class of 2022 all the best for their exams which kickstarted today, and pledged to recruit other businesses in this move, a first of its kind.

Please note that there will be no Madlesa Sunday (November Edition) from the 6th, in respect of the final year matric exams. As a genuine business, we will join other businesses around the province and beyond, who will pay their respects and wish well all matriculants sitting for exams this year by withholding our Sunday chilling vibe during this year’s matric examination period starting Monday, 31 October 2022.

The statement was released and went viral on social media, receiving applause from community members across the board.

As management we saw it fit to postpone this [breath-taking] and remarkable event, because we take education seriously, as it is through the power of a pen and paper that we can change the world.

The nation was shocked earlier this year, when reports of an apparent gas leak tragically claimed the lives of 21 teenagers at Enyobeni Tavern in the Eastern Cape.

Limpopo Basic Education Department Spokesperson Mike Maringa says the Department welcomes the decision.

This was our plea from the very beginning, to say that taxi drivers and tavern owners must try their best to limit events and noise levels, for learners to concentrate during this sensitive period. We’re pleased to see a positive response to our initiative, and heed to the Department’s call.

On this note, Mopani Times would also like to take this time and wish the class of ’22 all the very best!
