Thlarihani TVET College rape suspects appeared before the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing severe charges including possession of suspected stolen items and four counts of rape.
The alleged crimes took place at Thlarihani TVET College in Phaphadi village, within the Bolobedu policing area, on February 22 at around midnight.
The suspects, identified as Ntsako Mathebula, 18, and Tiza Mamatlepa, 24, were arrested last week in connection with the crimes. The police investigation led to their arrest after one suspect was found with a stolen cellphone from one of the students.
This discovery opened up a Pandora’s box, and further investigation uncovered multiple cellphones and a bank card belonging to one of the victims at the second suspect’s home.
The evidence gathered by the police was sufficient to link the duo to the crimes, and they were subsequently charged with possession of suspected stolen items and four counts of rape.
As the case unfolded, the suspects were remanded in custody until their next appearance on March 25, 2025, for a formal bail application.
