The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Ba-Phalaborwa sub-region, led by Provincial Secretary commissar Kgothatso Mogoane, organized a protest march to Eskom offices on Tuesday.
The march aimed to express discontent with Eskom’s ongoing load reduction, which has been causing two-hour power outages in the morning and evening.
During the protest, a memorandum of grievances was submitted to Eskom’s management, giving them seven days to respond. The EFF’s march emphasizes the ongoing community’s frustrations with Eskom’s power management and their desire for reliable electricity supply.
This march follows a similar protest two months prior, where residents from Namakgale, Lulekani, and Mashishimale villages temporarily shut down Eskom’s customer service office due to the same issue. On March 17, 2025, a group of protesters marched to Eskom’s office, demanding an immediate end to the daily load reduction.
“We will not stand idly by while Eskom continues to disrupt our daily lives with these unnecessary load reductions,” said Kgothatso Mogoane, Provincial Secretary of the EFF. “We demand that Eskom takes immediate action to address this issue and provides our community with a stable electricity supply.”
The party’s provincial leadership emphasized that they will continue to push for solutions until the load reduction issue is resolved.
Community’s Demands: Immediate end to daily load reduction; Reliable electricity supply; Improved customer service from Eskom and Eskom to provide a clear plan to address the current power challenges
