Dan-village football star, Vicky Mkhawana lifted the first major trophy of his career on Sunday as Kaizer Chiefs Reserves team were officially crowned DSTV Diski Challenge champions for the first time ever in the competition’s 11-year history after thrashing AmaZulu FC 5-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium.

It was a record-breaking season for the Naturena outfit who won 22 of their 28 matches, drawing four and losing just two as they finished with a historic 70 points — the highest ever in the league’s history. They also conceded the least goals (16) the entire season.

For Mkhawana who joined Kaizer Chiefs development academy in 2022 from Nkowankowa Barcelona and rose to the ranks, earning a senior team contract after an impressive displays at the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria, the championship represents the first major trophy of his professional career.

This is a dream come true,” Mkhawana beamed. “The journey has been wonderful, with ups and downs, but I never gave up. You’ve got to earn it, work hard for it, and it will come in due time.”

Mkhawana expressed heartfelt gratitude to his family and supporters, acknowledging their unwavering belief in him. “I’m so glad with your support and my family’s support. I’ve made it this far, and there’s still more coming.”he added.
