The PSL promotional playoffs log

Orbit College Football Club has made history by securing promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cape Town City in the PSL promotional playoffs at Olympia Park Stadium on Wednesday.
The North West-based side clinched the top spot in the mini-league format with 8 points from four matches, making it mathematically impossible for any other team to catch them.
This result also confirmed Cape Town City’s relegation from the PSL, as they now face the challenge of competing in the National First Division (NFD) for the upcoming season.
Heading into Wednesday’s match, Cape Town City was the only team capable of overtaking Orbit College. With two points already on the log and two matches remaining, they had the potential to finish with 8 points—provided they won both fixtures, including the crucial showdown against Orbit.
However, their narrow loss to the promotion frontrunners dashed those hopes. Even a draw would have kept their chances alive heading into their final fixture against Casric Stars. In that scenario, a victory over Casric could have elevated them to 6 points, enough to edge Orbit College by a single point. But the 1-0 defeat rendered their last fixture meaningless, leaving both Cape Town City and Casric Stars with only two points each.
Orbit College’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Having earned promotion to the NFD only in the 2022/23 season, the club has now secured a spot in South Africa’s top flight—a testament to their rapid rise and continued ambition.
They join Durban City, which secured automatic promotion by winning the NFD title, as the two new additions to the PSL for the 2025/26 season.
This triumph not only marks a significant milestone for Orbit College but also brings top-tier football back to the North West province—a region that has eagerly awaited representation at the highest level.
