After a tense few weeks of uncertainty, Pipa Young Stars, a rising soccer team from Ga-Maphalle village in Bolobedu, has officially secured their spot in the upcoming Champ of Champs playoffs.

The team, owned by 63-year-old Stewart “Kwekwe” Modika, faced disciplinary challenges following their league victory but has emerged victorious off the field as well.

The team was summoned before the league’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) due to allegations from the second-placed team, which claimed match-fixing and the use of defaulters in a match against Satlaleng FC. However, Modika noted that Satlaleng had not lodged any complaint themselves.

“These claims were made three to four weeks after the game, even though the rules clearly state that issues must be reported within seven days,” explained Modika. “We presented our case before the DC, and they found no evidence against us. We won our case, and now we’re moving forward.”

With the matter resolved, the team is now preparing to compete in the prestigious Champ of Champs playoffs, scheduled for June 14–15 at Nkowankowa Stadium. The stakes are high, as only one team will earn promotion to the provincial level.

Coach Isaac “Wacko” Senyolo is diligently working with the squad, and Modika believes they are ready for the challenge. “We have talented players and a great coach. We’re going there to win,” he stated confidently.

However, the team faces a financial hurdle. Pipa Young Stars urgently needs R8,000 to cover player accommodation at Tivumbeni College in Nkowankowa during the tournament.

Modika is appealing to soccer lovers, businesses, and community members across Bolobedu for support. “This team doesn’t just belong to me; it represents the entire community of Bolobedu. Help us make our dream a reality. Every contribution counts,” he urged.
