A new era has begun in the ABC Motsepe League as Winnerspark FC has officially rebranded to Mukondeni Young Chiefs ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The move comes after the club was purchased by ambitious new owner Takalo Ramuthlaka and relocated to the football-loving village of Mukondeni in the Vhembe district.

Leading this exciting transformation is head coach Joel Mongalo, a seasoned figure in South Africa’s second division football and cousin to the club’s new owner. After successfully steering the team away from relegation last season, Mongalo is now setting his sights higher. He has declared that the Young Chiefs are targeting promotion to the National First Division (NFD) and a coveted place in the Nedbank Cup Last 32.

“We’re not just here to compete; we’re here to challenge,” Mongalo stated confidently. “Last season, we managed to save the team from relegation. This season, we are aiming for the title.”

Despite the rebranding, Mongalo has retained the core of the team, keeping ten players from last season, including Sthembiso Miya, a goalkeeper from KwaZulu-Natal, whose outstanding performances were key to stabilizing the squad. To enhance the team’s title ambitions, Mongalo has brought in several new players, blending youthful talent with experienced veterans.

However, the path to success will not be easy. The Vhembe district hosts several strong opponents, including perennial title contenders Mpheni Defenders, rising stars Munaca, and the consistently competitive Vondwe X1 Bullets. Despite this, Mongalo embraces the challenge.

“We respect our opponents, but we fear no one. This district has top-quality football, and that excites us. We’re here to raise the bar and demonstrate that Mukondeni can produce champions,” he said.

Mongalo’s journey with the club has been nothing short of inspiring. When Winnerspark was struggling near the bottom of the table, he recognized its potential and successfully convinced his cousin to acquire the club. That gamble has started to pay off, and with renewed confidence and resources, Mukondeni Young Chiefs appear poised to become serious contenders.

For the residents of Mukondeni, the arrival of the club has ignited a new wave of excitement and community pride. With home matches now to be played locally, supporters are expected to fill the stands and cheer for their team as they pursue glory.

One thing is clear—Mukondeni Young Chiefs are not just participating in the ABC Motsepe League this season; they are determined to claim the crown.
