The African National Congress in Limpopo has successfully concluded its inaugural Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting following the party’s 11th Provincial Conference. The gathering took place at a time of deep political significance for the movement. It coincided with the commemoration of key figures in the struggle for freedom, including Solomon Mahlangu, Chris Hani, and Oliver Reginald Tambo.

The meeting served as the formal start for the new leadership team led by the Provincial Chairperson, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba. During the session, she delivered a political overview that focused on the need for the movement to work more closely with the people of Limpopo. She reminded members that unity is the foundation of the movement and remains a requirement for any future victory.

New Appointments and Internal Structures

To ensure the committee represents the diverse character of the province, the leadership exercised its power to add three new members. The newly co-opted members include Orginia Mafefe, Delly Matjomane, and Bongani Nkonyana. Nkonyana brings significant experience to the body as the recent former Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the ANC Youth League.

A major highlight of the meeting was the appointment of key officials to lead the party’s internal departments. Tonny Rachoene was elected as the Head of Communications. In this role, he will serve as the official Provincial Spokesperson and the voice of the ANC PEC communication machinery.

Goodman Mtileni, a former ANCYL Provincial Secretary, was appointed as the Head of Organising. Both Rachoene and Mtileni will serve as permanent invitees to the Provincial Working Committee (PWC). Mtileni holds this permanent invitee status specifically to ensure organizational effectiveness through his role in managing the party’s organizing machinery.

Forming the Provincial Working Committee

The meeting also saw the successful formation of the Provincial Working Committee. This smaller group is responsible for the day to day management of the party’s affairs in the province. The committee includes the top five provincial officials:

*Provincial Chairperson: Dr. Phophi Ramathuba

*Deputy Provincial Chairperson: John Makoro Mpe

*Provincial Secretary: Vhamusanda Reuben Madadzhe

*Deputy Provincial Secretary: Pule Shayi

*Provincial Treasurer: Eddie Maila

In addition to these officials, several other members were elected unanimously to the working committee. These include Kgabo Mahoai, Florence Radzilani, Nakedi Kekana, Gloria Mnisi, Bella Kupa-Mabuza, Rodgers Monama, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, Basikopo Makamu, and Nkakareng Rakgoale. Notably, the Norman Mashabane Region secured three seats on the PWC with the inclusion of Makamu, Mnisi, and Rakgoale.

Focus on Regional Strength

The leadership emphasized that a strong provincial structure depends on healthy local branches. To supervise work on the ground, the committee deployed members to lead the various regions of Limpopo.

The appointed convenors for the regions are:

*Peter Mokaba Region: Thabo Mokone

*Norman Mashabane Region: Nakedi Kekana

*Vhembe Region: Gloria Mnisi

*Waterberg Region: Bella Kupa-Mabuza

*Sekhukhune Region: Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya

The Road Ahead: Giyani Provincial Rally

With the new structures now in place, the party is preparing for its first major public event. A provincial rally will be held on Saturday, 11 April 2026, at the Giyani Stadium. This event will officially introduce the members of the 11th Provincial Executive Committee to the public and launch the process for nominating local government councillor candidates.

Dr. Phophi Ramathuba is scheduled to deliver the main address at the rally. This gathering is expected to draw a large crowd as the party demonstrates its readiness for upcoming political challenges. The successful conclusion of this first meeting suggests a leadership that is organized and ready to move forward.
