Bolobedu-based outfit Molototsi United suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Thembisa side Sthembiso FC in a quarterfinal clash played at Shaka Stadium in Mabopane, bringing their promising tournament run to an abrupt end.

The match was overshadowed by pre-game controversy that significantly affected Molototsi United’s preparations. Two of their key players were ruled ineligible to participate due to alleged identity document verification issues, a development that disrupted the team’s structure and strategy just hours before kickoff.

Head coach Isaac Senyolo expressed frustration over the situation, stating that the late decision left the team at a serious disadvantage.

“The players whose identity documents were deemed not verifiable could not take part in the tournament,” he explained. “That affected our entire game plan and destabilized the team on a very important day.”

Without two of their star performers, Molototsi struggled to cope against a well-organized Sthembiso FC side, who capitalized on the disruption to secure a convincing victory and book their place in the semifinals.

The defeat was not only a sporting setback but also a financial blow, as Molototsi United missed out on the opportunity to compete for the tournament’s lucrative R1 million grand prize.

Despite the disappointment, Molototsi United—like all eliminated quarterfinalists—received their R20,000 affiliation fee back from the tournament organizers.

While their journey ends here, the experience highlights both the team’s potential and the importance of administrative compliance at competitive levels.

The tournament continues as the remaining teams battle for a place in the final.
