Limpopo football giants Black Leopards F.C. have officially been relegated to the ABC Motsepe League despite securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Venda Football Club over the weekend in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Lidoda Duvha entered the crucial fixture knowing that victory alone would not guarantee survival. The club also needed relegation rivals The Bees to lose against Leicesterford City.

However, The Bees managed to collect maximum points, a result that ultimately sealed Black Leopards’ fate with one game still left to play this season.

The relegation marks another painful chapter for the once-proud Limpopo outfit, which has now suffered its second relegation in just three years. Leopards were previously relegated from the National First Division in 2023, and their latest drop has left supporters deeply disappointed and questioning the direction of the club.

Just a few weeks ago, fellow Limpopo side Baroka F.C. also suffered relegation, making it a devastating season for two of the province’s biggest football institutions. The back-to-back relegations of Baroka and Black Leopards have sparked serious concern among football supporters across the province.

Black Leopards will now conclude their disappointing campaign this weekend against Lerumo Lions in a fixture that will have no impact on their already confirmed relegation status.

As debates continue among supporters and football analysts, many are pointing to the frequent changing of coaches at both clubs as one of the major factors behind their downfall. Critics argue that constant changes in the technical bench disrupted stability, consistency, team identity, and long-term planning throughout the season.

Others believe poor decision-making, inconsistency on the field, and lack of proper squad management also contributed to the disappointing campaigns of the two Limpopo sides.

For Black Leopards supporters, the relegation is especially painful considering the club’s rich history, loyal fan base, and previous presence in top-flight South African football.

Attention will now turn to management and the technical team as pressure mounts to rebuild the club and restore Lidoda Duvha to its former glory.
