Sure, the local government elections are sitting right around the corner on November 4. Sure, he might only hold the chain for about two months before voters head to the polls. But make no mistake, landing this post is a massive personal and political victory for the ANC Norman Mashabane Regional Chairperson.
For weeks, Mamanyoha was stranded in political limbo while Pule Shayi moved up to the provincial cabinet as COGHSTA MEC. Enemies tried to use tribal origin against him, and Luthuli House delayed the shortlist announcement. Yet, Mamanyoha stayed patient, played the traditional ANC card of hierarchy, and watched the opposition collapse.
Even if his current term is brief, “Executive Mayor of Mopani District Municipality” is now permanently written on his CV. Nobody can take that away from him.

*The Factional Peace Peace-Offer: Former rival Basani Shivambu was kept right where she was as MMC for Community Services. Instead of purging her after a bitter tribal spat, Mamanyoha handed her a cabinet seat to keep the peace and silence her supporters.
*The Finance Hand-Off: Nomsa Khandela steps in as the MMC for Finance. She inherits a massive financial mess, including frozen Treasury funds, R1.35 billion in irregular expenditure, and unpaid water board debts.
*The Powerbrokers: Lucky Mohlala takes over Governance and Leader of Government Business, serving as Mamanyoha’s main shield inside council chambers.
By balancing sub-regions and retaining potential troublemakers, Mamanyoha has bought himself absolute calm inside council for the next 60 days.
