Executive Mayor Pule Shai presents an award to Mopani East District.

Tivumbeni EMPC was a hive of excitement and celebration as the Mopani District Municipality Executive Mayor Pule Shayi honoured the top achievers in the 2024 Matric examination.
Shayi, invited scores of hard-working matric pupils and educators to give them accolades for their performance in last year’s matric exams. Each year the Executive Mayor hosts the District’s Academic Excellence Awards for this purpose.
Among the standout performers of the day was Tapson Mbedzi from Mohumi Secondary School in Ga-Sekgopo. Tapson demonstrated exceptional academic prowess, securing an impressive second-place finish in the highly competitive History category.
The Mayor commended the meteoric rise by Mopani East District Education which has improved from 77,3 % in 2023 to 85.3% in 2025, forcing its way to the top five in the province. Mopani West District Education improved from 83, 8% in 2023 to 87, 2% in 2024. Mopani West is the second leading district in the province.
The Executive Mayor encouraged this year’s award recipients to continue to be their hard work and dedication ‘because education is the key to all the socio-economic challenges our country faces’
