Josy United FC’s title ambitions are in jeopardy as second-placed Nkuri Fast Eleven have caught up with them on points and hold a game in hand.
Both clubs currently sit at 32 points, with Josy United only ahead due to a superior goal difference. This leaves Josy in a precarious position, needing to win all their remaining five matches while hoping Nkuri drop points.
The Jamela-based side, who previously dominated the Baobab Stream with three consecutive league titles, have struggled this season after being moved to the more competitive Molototsi Stream.
Their inconsistent form, marked by crucial losses and unexpected draws, has put them under immense pressure.
Josy’s title challenge took a major hit after suffering three defeats in the first round—against Jackson Young Stars (2-1), Nkuri Fast Move (3-2), and a heavy 3-0 loss to third-placed Hlahla Northern Bucks in the second round. Additionally, two disappointing draws against Bode Arrow Mountain (1-1) and Nkuri Fast Move (1-1) further hindered their progress.
These setbacks have also opened the door for Hlahla Northern Bucks to enter the title race. Sitting just two points behind Josy with a game in hand, Hlahla could become serious contenders for the championship.
This marks the first time Josy United has lost three games in a single season after years of dominance in the Baobab Stream. However, head coach Neil Thwala remains confident that his team can still clinch the title.
“Hlahla and Nkuri still have to play each other, and both teams face tough fixtures ahead,” Thwala stated. “I believe in my team—they can still win the league.”
With the season approaching its climax, all eyes will be on the title race as Josy United fights to reclaim their dominance.
