SAFA Mopani Region has confirmed that it will conduct trials for Under-15 players on Sunday, 7 December, at Nkowankowa Stadium starting at 08:00.
The trials form part of the FIFA-led Talent Development Scheme (TDS), an initiative facilitated by SAFA to identify and develop future national team players from grassroots level.
Speaking on behalf of SAFA Mopani, LFA Chairperson Donald Mohale said the initiative is crucial for giving young footballers a pathway to professional and national opportunities.
“The Talent Development Scheme gives our boys a real opportunity to be seen and developed. We want to make sure every talented child in Mopani gets a fair and equal chance,” Mohale said.
The TDS trials began at LFA level, with the Tzaneen LFA having already completed their selection process. Their selected players will now join those from other LFAs at Nkowankowa Stadium on Sunday for the regional round of trials.
Players who excel in the Mopani regional trials will advance to the provincial phase, scheduled for Sunday, 14 December 2025, at Northern Academy Primary School in Polokwane. From this final selection, a provincial Under-15 squad will be formed.
Mohale further explained that the selected provincial squad will represent Limpopo in the U-15 Interprovincial Tournament early next year, giving the players a chance to showcase their talent on a national stage.
Meanwhile, the Letaba LFA will hold its trials earlier, on Friday, 5 December, at Kgapane Local Ground starting at 10:00 in the morning.
Mohale encouraged all eligible players—boys born in 2010 and 2011—to participate.
“This is a rare and important opportunity. We urge parents, coaches, and community leaders to support these young boys as they chase their dreams,” he added.
For many aspiring footballers in Mopani, the upcoming trials represent the first step toward a promising future in the sport.
