Former Marumo Gallants coach Mpho Maleka has taken another major step in his coaching journey after successfully completing Phase 2 of the CAF A Licence Coaching Course in Lesotho last week.

The respected South African football figure from Limpopo Province is among a group of former professional players currently pursuing the prestigious CAF A Licence, a qualification widely regarded as essential for coaches aiming to lead top-flight clubs in South African football.

Maleka formed part of the 22 coaches who returned to Maseru for the second block of the CAF A Licence Coaching Diploma held this April. The programme had initially begun with 23 participants, but one coach sadly passed away after completing the first phase.

The latest block of the course was facilitated by Serame Letsoaka and Naleli Tšilo, under the guidance of the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), which hosted the programme.

This is not Maleka’s first coaching milestone in Lesotho, having previously completed his CAF B Licence through the same association.

The CAF A Licence is typically structured into four phases or modules, meaning Maleka now has two more blocks remaining before completing one of Africa’s highest coaching qualifications.

Maleka remains well known in South African football circles for guiding Marumo Gallants to Nedbank Cup glory, a historic achievement that elevated both his reputation and the club’s standing in the local game.

His latest progress signals continued ambition to return to the highest level of coaching, with the CAF A Licence opening doors to future opportunities in the country.
