Mphehli Real Rovers are determined to make an early statement in the Hollywoodbets Men’s Regional League Baobab Stream when they take on defending champions FC Rellen in their opening fixture at Kgapane this Saturday.
The Baobab Stream finally gets underway this weekend following a lengthy delay, with Rovers facing a stern test against a side that dominated their encounters last season.
FC Rellen defeated Mphehli Real Rovers twice last season and will be hoping to maintain their dominance when the two teams meet again. However, this time around, the defending champions will be fielding an entirely new team made up of young players, something Rovers could look to exploit.
Rovers coach Tshepo Sebopetsa is confident his charges are ready for the challenge and has made it clear that they are targeting nothing less than maximum points.
“We are ready to collect our first three points,” said Sebopetsa.
Mphehli Real Rovers finished among the top four teams last season and will be looking to go a step further this campaign by challenging for the league title.
The absence of last season’s runners-up, Ramaroka Super Aces, could also open up the title race, potentially putting Rovers among the favourites to challenge for top spot.
With FC Rellen undergoing a major squad overhaul, Saturday’s encounter presents Rovers with an opportunity to put last season’s defeats behind them and announce their title ambitions from the opening match.
All matches are scheduled to kick off at 15h00.
Saturday’s fixtures:
FC Rellen vs Mphehli Real Rovers;
Pipa Young Stars vs Rabadia;
Sekgopo All Stars vs Wholesale AC Millan;
Free Boys FC vs Sekgosese FC.
