The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, is set to unveil new Provincial Commissioners for four key provinces across the country.
Lieutenant General Dimpane will make the official announcements alongside respective provincial Premiers and Members of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible for Community Safety and Liaison. The major leadership changes will take effect across the Western Cape, North West, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga provinces.
According to police management, these senior appointments are part of an ongoing effort to strengthen leadership structures within the South African Police Service. The changes align directly with the SAPS organizational renewal programme and support the broader SAPS Reset Agenda.
The police service emphasized that the main goal of this leadership refresh is to build a professional, ethical, accountable, and effective police force that can deliver better community safety.
In Limpopo, the upcoming appointment marks the end of a temporary leadership period. Major General Jan Scheepers has been serving as the acting SAPS Provincial Commissioner since the resignation of Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. Hadebe stepped down at the end of June 2026 after completing 40 years of service in the police force.
The series of official announcements will kick off in the Western Cape on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. Lieutenant General Dimpane and provincial leaders will meet the media at the SAPS Provincial Headquarters on 25 Alfred Street in Cape Town at 11:00 AM.
The rollout will then move to the North West province on Thursday, 30 July 2026. The new provincial police chief for the North West will be announced at the Disaster Management Centre in Mahikeng at 11:00 AM.
On Friday, 31 July 2026, police management will unveil the new commissioners for both Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
The Limpopo announcement will take place bright and early at 09:00 AM at the SAPS Provincial Headquarters located at 44 Schoeman Street in Polokwane. Later that same afternoon, the delegation will travel to Mpumalanga to announce their new top cop at 14:00 PM at the SAPS Provincial Headquarters on 7 Ferreira Street in Nelspruit.
This major leadership shakeup comes at a crucial time as communities across all four provinces continue to demand stronger action against violent crime, gang activity, and local corruption. The appointment of permanent, capable provincial heads is expected to boost morale and restore operational stability within the rank and file of the police service.
