The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo is set to host its Lawrence Phokanoka District Manifesto Launch on Sunday, 13 September 2026. The event will take place at Mothomeng Primary School in Tzaneen Ward 07, starting at 10:00 AM.
Running under the central theme of “Building People’s Power, Self-Reliance and People’s Economy,” the launch forms a central part of the Party’s broader efforts to rebuild its organizational structures, deepen voter outreach, and popularize its local government elections manifesto.
The Relela Cluster is currently experiencing a steady and significant resurgence of party membership. This renewed energy comes after many years of organizational lull, during which much of the local political focus remained centered primarily on the African National Congress (ANC). Following the Party’s historic resolution to contest municipal elections independently, activists and community members across the cluster have stepped forward to build strong, self-reliant communist structures.
Strengthening Grassroots Structures
The political momentum in the area has already yielded concrete results on the ground. The Mothomeng Ward Branch was recently launched amidst great enthusiasm from local residents. The area holds deep historic significance for the Party, as it is the home village of SACP General Secretary Solly Africa Mapaila. Mapaila attended school locally at Maselekwane High School, and his sister still resides in the community today.
Building on the success of the Ward 07 launch, organizational work is moving swiftly across neighboring communities. Ward 10 is currently consolidating its membership registers across various voting districts and is next in line to officially launch its branch structure soon. Similar revival efforts are actively underway across other wards in the cluster to ensure total voter coverage ahead of the upcoming elections.
Local organizers emphasize that the strategy relies on building active membership right down to the voting district level. By establishing solid branch registers and conducting regular door-to-door visits, the Party aims to directly address community grievances regarding basic service delivery, local economic development, and municipal governance.
Keynote Address and Leadership Mobilization
The Sunday gathering will feature Limpopo SACP Provincial Chairperson Comrade Percy Ndlala as the keynote speaker. Comrade Ndlala is expected to deliver a direct political address outlining the SACP’s independent electoral strategy, the core pillars of the municipal manifesto, and the practical steps required to build a people-centered local economy.
Leadership delegations from both the provincial executive committee and the Lawrence Phokanoka District will attend the event to show solidarity and provide organizational support to the local structures.
The event is expected to draw large numbers of local residents, party veterans, workers, and youth cadres from across the Relela Cluster and surrounding areas. For community members, the manifesto launch offers an opportunity to engage directly with the SACP’s vision for clean, accountable, and working-class-driven local government.
