Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup players have pledged to fight for the club’s survival, determined to avoid relegation from the ABC Motsepe League. Their manager, Thabo Moremi, confirmed the team’s commitment as they face an uphill battle at the bottom of the standings.
Currently sitting in last place with just seven points, Thlothlokwe is in a desperate race to catch up with Winnerspark, Black Leopards, and Maruleng Celtics, who each have 13 points. To secure their place in the league, they must win at least four of their remaining five matches—a daunting challenge. However, Moremi remains optimistic.
“Our players have made a pledge to save the club from relegation. They are very optimistic and have assured me that we will retain our status,” he said
After earning promotion to the ABC Motsepe League last season, Thlothlokwe found it difficult to compete at the higher level, mainly due to a lack of experienced players and coaching staff. The club initially stuck with the squad and coaches who helped them win the Hollywoodbets League, hoping for continued success. However, they struggled to adapt to the league’s intensity, leading to poor results.
In the second half of the season, the club made key changes, bringing in experienced coach Zungu Nkosi along with seasoned players to strengthen the squad. Since then, performances have improved, and the team recently secured its second victory of the season.
Thlothlokwe’s next match is a must-win encounter against title-chasing Mpheni Defenders. The away fixture will be a ‘do-or-die’ battle, with both teams desperate for points—one fighting for survival, the other for glory.
With their renewed determination and recent improvements, Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup hopes to defy the odds and maintain their league status.
