ABC Motsepe League side Nkowankowa Continental are firmly in relegation territory after a difficult run of results that has left them rooted to the bottom of the table.

The Nkowankowa-based outfit are still without a win after eight league matches, having managed just two draws and suffered six defeats. The poor run has intensified pressure on the club as the battle for survival begins to take shape.

Continental’s recent outings have summed up their season so far. They were convincingly beaten 5–0 away by Badhuza Celtic, who currently occupy ninth position on the log, in a match played in Phalaborwa. The heavy defeat exposed the team’s struggles at the back and highlighted the gap they must close to remain competitive.

However, there was a glimpse of resilience in their following fixture, where Continental produced a spirited performance to earn a 2–2 draw away to Lebash Football Academy, showing that the team still has fight despite their league position.

Soccer lovers in Nkowankowa are now looking to head coach Peace Khosa to once again work a miracle. Khosa is a familiar and respected figure at the club, having guided Continental to promotion into the ABC Motsepe League a few seasons ago. His experience and knowledge of the division are seen as crucial in the fight to avoid the drop.

Khosa has previously been open about the challenges facing his squad, indicating that the team needs more quality players in certain positions to strengthen their competitiveness. Those concerns have been compounded by the loss of key players from last season, most notably top striker William Bopape, whose goals were instrumental in previous campaigns.

With a largely rebuilt squad, Continental appear to be struggling to find cohesion, and the lack of early wins is becoming a familiar and dangerous pattern. Failure to turn draws into victories could see them follow in the footsteps of Thlothlokwe Golden Syrup, who endured a slow start last season and were eventually relegated.

The road to survival does not get any easier. Continental’s revival must begin against a rejuvenated Selwane White Vultures side that recently stunned Nedbank Cup Last 32-bound Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila with a 5–0 victory, before holding another powerhouse, Phalaborwa United, to a 2–2 draw.

The stakes are high for a football-loving Nkowankowa community. The last time the township was represented in the ABC Motsepe League was during the era of Bankuna Bix 15, who also suffered relegation.

For the people of Nkowankowa, going without a team in at least the second division is a reality they cannot afford. As the season progresses, Continental’s survival now depends on urgency, unity and, above all, a return to winning ways before it is too late.
