ActionSA is preparing to secure its first local council seats across the Mopani District Municipality in the local government elections set for November 4. Following the official proclamation of the election date, the national voters roll has legally closed for new voter registrations. Recent party figures released on August 17 show rapid membership growth across the region during the final registration drive.

The green party has gathered 11,179 paid members in good standing across five local municipalities. Another 1,696 people have signed up and are completing their internal paperwork. This brings ActionSA’s total supporters in Mopani to 12,875.

The figures show strong growth from July 31 to August 17. The party gained 1,227 new paid members in just over two weeks. Regional leaders say this steady rise gives them a firm base to win proportional representation seats in local councils.

Greater Tzaneen is leading the growth. The constituency added 599 paid members to reach a total of 3,896. Political analysts estimate that each council seat in the area requires around 3,000 votes. If every paid member brings two family members or friends to the polls on election day, ActionSA could secure two or three seats in Tzaneen.

Greater Letaba is another key area. Membership grew by 164 to reach 3,088 paid members. There are also 508 pending sign ups in the municipality. This high density of members makes Letaba a strong target for ActionSA to win two seats.

Ba-Phalaborwa saw steady gains as well. The area gained 180 members, bringing the paid total to 2,152. Projections show this level of support is enough to cross the voting threshold for one or two seats.

Smaller constituencies are also adding to the regional tally. Greater Giyani now stands at 1,316 paid members after adding 107 new supporters. Maruleng showed the highest jump in growth rate, adding 177 members to reach 727. Both areas are close to the quota needed to challenge for a single seat.

The combined vote count across all five municipalities will also determine the allocation of seats for the Mopani District Council. With over 11,000 active members acting as campaign anchors, ActionSA is positioned to claim at least one district seat.

With the voters roll now closed and open for public inspection, party organizers are pivoting away from voter registration drives. Their focus has shifted to full voter turnout efforts, ensuring every registered supporter casts their ballot on November 4.
