Limpopo Provincial Legislature Speaker, Dr Makoma Makhurupetje.
The Limpopo Provincial Legislature convenes today, 20 August 2026, at the Lebowakgomo Legislative Chamber.
The Office of the Speaker oversaw a critical sitting dedicated to the formal consideration and adoption of audit reports. These reports cover the financial management and performance of provincial departments and state owned entities. The sitting highlights ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight, protect public funds, and ensure transparent governance across the province.
The meeting comes right after an instruction from the Office of the Premier regarding public communication. The executive directed provincial departments and public entities not to share audit outcomes with the media or publish celebratory statements until after the Auditor-General completes an official briefing to the Executive Council.
Provincial spokesperson Ndavhe Ramakuela affirmed that the council needed to formally receive the report before public announcements could be made. Following a council meeting yesterday, the government officially set the stage to discuss these outcomes.
Six key departments reportedly achieved clean audits for the period. These include the Office of the Premier, the Provincial Treasury under MEC Kgabo Mahoai, and the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism led by MEC Tshitereke Matibe. The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture under MEC Jerry Maseko, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development under MEC Nakedi Kekana, and the Department of Transport and Community Safety under MEC Violet Mathye also joined the list.
During the session, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts will present detailed findings on these departments. Committee reports also evaluated major state owned entities. These entities include the Limpopo Economic Development Agency, the Limpopo Tourism Agency, the Limpopo Gambling Board, Gateway Airport Authority Limited, and the Road Agency Limpopo. The public accounts committee reviewed both individual entity files and wider transversal matters that impact the entire provincial government.
Clean audits are far more than administrative victories. They serve as a vital indicator of solid financial management, strict policy compliance, and effective internal controls. Achieving an audit free of financial misstatements or legal non-compliance means that taxpayers money is properly accounted for and used as intended. Strong governance reduces waste, prevents corruption, and ensures that public resources directly support vital infrastructure, healthcare, education, and community safety.
By opening these reports to legislative scrutiny, the Limpopo Provincial Legislature reinforces accountability across all public institutions. Effective oversight ensures that every rand spent contributes to better service delivery for local residents. As the government transitions from receiving these results to acting on them, maintaining rigorous accounting standards remains central to building public trust and delivering economic growth throughout Limpopo.
